Pay Your Tuition Foundation (PYT) is seeking a skilled volunteer to help design and build a WhatsApp-based chatbot that supports students navigating key external-facing processes, including crowdfunding and loan origination.

This chatbot will improve the student experience while reducing manual staff effort, streamlining workflows, and increasing speed and consistency across operations. The project will result in a practical, scalable solution that PYT can maintain and expand after the volunteer engagement ends.

Scope of Work
The volunteer will partner with PYT staff to design, build, and document a WhatsApp chatbot prototype (MVP). The scope includes:
1. Understanding PYT’s student-facing workflows related to crowdfunding and loan origination
2. Defining chatbot use cases, conversation logic, and escalation paths to staff
3. Designing user-friendly, mobile-first conversation flows for WhatsApp
4. Building and testing a functional chatbot or AI-assisted workflow

Key Deliverables
By the end of the project, we expect:
1. A defined chatbot use-case map and conversation flow design
2. A working WhatsApp chatbot prototype (MVP) supporting priority student needs
3. Basic automation or AI-enabled functionality implemented
4. Documentation covering: What was built, How it works and How to maintain and update it
5. Recommendations for future enhancements and next-phase improvements
We help students close the last-mile financial gap that keeps them from graduating. But access to funding is just one piece of the puzzle — students also need clear, timely, and supportive guidance as they navigate that journey. By building a WhatsApp-based chatbot, we’ll meet students where they already are, reduce confusion, and speed up their access to key services.
Our team has already mapped out the key student-facing processes we want to support. With help from the volunteer, we can develop an FAQ or knowledge base to power the chatbot experience. We’re committed to close collaboration—offering clear documentation, regular feedback, testing support, and fast decision-making throughout the project. As a nonprofit, we’ll also explore free or discounted platform access to any tools recommended by the volunteer to ensure a smooth build and long-term sustainability.

Organization Mission

At PYTF, we are dedicated to empowering underserved communities through innovative financial solutions. We strive to make higher education accessible and sustainable, recognizing the significant funding gaps that hinder many low to moderate-income undergraduate students from starting, staying in, and completing their degrees. Research indicates that financial obstacles account for 50% of the reasons why low-income students fail to complete their degrees. Our vision is to reshape the socioeconomic landscape by ensuring equitable access to education. Through our Student Loanership product offering—a unique blend of loan and scholarship—we connect families and banks to groundbreaking financing solutions. By harnessing technology and data, we bridge the higher education funding gap. Our program not only revolutionizes the scholarship industry but also places a strong emphasis on student advocacy, championing the financial interests, needs, and overall well-being of students. Join us in collaborating with students like you to forge a future where educational equity is universal, and every scholar has the resources to thrive, alongside student-driven initiatives.
