Our goal for this project is to create a press outreach plan and collateral to support a push for press coverage around our 20th Anniversary and related program expansion. We are also looking for this volunteer to recommend media outreach best practices and advice on developing connections with press outlets.
Our organization is celebrating its 20th Anniversary this month, but our story is about a lot more than that. It's about legacy, fresh leadership, and truly urgent relevance. Building on our 20 year history, we have a new Executive Director this year who has transformed the organization and poised us for rapid growth and just the right moment. As federal funding priorities are shifting, our peer organizations are facing major budget challenges and cutbacks and dozens of schools in our county are at risk of losing their critical health and environmental literacy programs. We are lucky to be unaffected by these cutbacks, and are leveraging our infrastructure, staff, and funding partnerships to fill in the gaps as quickly as we are able. As a result, our in-school programs are starting this school year serving 7.5x as many students as we did last year. We hope to generate awareness and further support and excitement with this press outreach, powering our growth and impact in the region for years to come.
We have completed a considerable amount of pre-work, including drafting language about our mission, vision, and current moment challenges and opportunities. As we are also celebrating a 20th Anniversary, we also have collected and curated testimonials, human stories, photos, videos, and more from participants, staff, and board members from those two decades. This information is compiled and organized for our volunteer to utilize as needed.

Organization Mission

At The HEAL Project, we teach kids where their food comes from and why it matters. Through hands-on, nature-based programs at four school gardens and our two-acre educational farm on the California coast, we offer kids an opportunity to reconnect with the things that nourish them: their food, their planet, and each other. Our field trips, garden classes, and camps serve over 4,000 students each year with outdoor learning opportunities that inspire kids' natural curiosity and cultivate environmental awareness in the next generation.
