Grant Prospect Research & Readiness Toolkit

My goal for this Taproot Project is to create a grant prospecting and application readiness system for our nonprofit.

Specifically, we’d love a volunteer to help us:
– Identify 10–20 potential grant opportunities aligned with our mission and current funding needs
– Organize grant deadlines, funder requirements, and submission statuses into a tracker or calendar
– Build a master checklist of documents typically required for applications (financials, bios, budgets, etc.)
– Advise on how to tailor our messaging and program descriptions to match funder priorities

This project will help us better plan ahead, stay organized, and apply consistently and effectively.

Through working with our organization on this project, the volunteer will support our mission by helping us reach more aligned funders and secure vital resources for our work.

Our current focus is building the Osiligi Maternal Hospital in rural Kenya — a facility that will provide safe, dignified maternal healthcare to women who currently travel hours to give birth.

With this project, the volunteer’s support will directly contribute to safer births, healthier families, and more empowered communities.

My team and I have prepared for this project by:
– Gathering our recent program descriptions and budgets
– Completing draft grant materials (project summaries, vision documents, impact stories)
– Identifying some funders we want to approach but haven’t yet
– Preparing to implement the volunteer’s recommendations through our internal systems (Google Sheets)
